Doctor Gehlen graduated from the University of Oregon Dental School. He attended College at the University of San Francisco. Doctor Gehlen has been practicing dentistry for 30 years and has been in his current location 28 years. Since he began practicing dentistry, Dr. Gehlen has kept up to date through many educational courses, including ongoing membership in dental study groups in which the specialty areas of dentistry are studied ensuring that his patients recieve the most comprehensive and advanced dental care. He is a member of the ADA and ODA.

He has taught at the University of Washington and University of Oregon Dental Schools. He was in the U.S. Public Health Service working with American Indians and in hospital settings. He founded Northwest Dental Institute, a career school for dental assisting.
